Description

Derived from the Hawaiian microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis grown under perfect conditions, esterified astaxanthin is a stable and potent fat-soluble antioxidant of the carotenoid family. Research has shown that Haematococcus algae produce astaxanthin to protect themselves against damage caused by free radicals produced by ultraviolet rays. Astaxanthin differs from beta-carotene in that it has two additional oxygen groups on each of its ring structures, which enhances its ability to scavenge free radicals. Astaxanthin has been shown to be several hundred times more effective than vitamin E in neutralizing singlet oxygen molecules and has greater antioxidant activity than zeaxanthin and lutein. Astaxanthin protects the phospholipid membranes of cells from oxidative stress. In a human clinical evaluation, astaxanthin supplementation for two weeks provided significant antioxidant protection to the skin.

Dosage

Adults: Take 1 capsule 1 to 3 times daily with meals, or as recommended by a healthcare professional. Consult a health care practitioner for use beyond 3 months.

Non-medicinal ingredients: Gelatin capsule (gelatin, glycerin, purified water), extra virgin olive oil.
