Description

Folic acid (or folate) is vitamin B9, a water-soluble vitamin that plays a key role in DNA and RNA biosynthesis, red blood cell formation, protein metabolism and optimal gene expression. Since the body does not produce folic acid, but needs it, it seeks it from food or supplements. Diet, lifestyle, certain medications and certain diseases can deplete the body's folic acid stores. BioFolate® contains L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF), the active form of folic acid used by the body.

Consuming folate in the L-5-MTHF form ensures that even people with a mutation of the MTHFR gene can absorb it to avoid deficiency.
