Description

Primrose oil is derived from the oenothera, a yellow flowering herb native to America. This natural source of omega-6 fatty acids helps maintain optimal health. The structure and function of the skin, the body's largest organ, depends on fatty acids. Linoleic acid accounts for approximately 12% of the fatty acids in the skin. It is essential for maintaining the integrity of the epidermal barrier, which protects against environmental factors and loss of electrolytes and water. Deficiencies in omega-6 fatty acids are associated with epithelial cell dysfunction, including loss of moisture in the skin and eyes. In a randomized placebo-controlled trial, daily consumption of supplements containing primrose oil for three months significantly improved skin firmness, elasticity and protective barrier in adults with dry skin. Recent research indicates that long-term consumption of primrose oil may be necessary to improve skin health as it takes four weeks for skin cells to regenerate and a new balance of fatty acids to be achieved.

Dosage

Adults: Take one capsule twice daily with meals or as directed by your practitioner.
