Description

Lipoic Acid Supreme contains 300 mg of lipoic acid, along with 4 mg of pure biotin and 500 mg of taurine, and is designed to help maintain normal blood sugar and insulin balance. Lipoic acid is a sulfur compound with amphiphilic antioxidant properties, making it effective in both water and lipid-based environments. This unique property allows it to neutralize free radicals in both hydrophilic and lipophilic environments, such as cytoplasm, plasma membranes, serum and lipoproteins. Lipoic acid is best known for its antioxidant capacity, but it has also been shown to have powerful effects on blood glucose control via insulin secretion and sensitivity, as well as contributing to metal detoxification.

Mammals are capable of endogenous tissue synthesis of lipoic acid, but humans have very small amounts and are therefore better adapted to absorb it from exogenous sources. In addition, certain health conditions may benefit from higher amounts via supplementation, and lipoic acid has been shown to be safe at relatively high doses. The concentration of lipoic acid that produces pharmacological effects is higher than that which is generally bioavailable from food. The richest food sources of lipoic acid are animal proteins with high metabolic activity, such as heart, liver and kidney, all of which are limited in the modern Western diet.

Dosage

Adults: Take 1 capsule daily with a meal, or as recommended by a healthcare professional.
