Description

Silymarin is a highly concentrated extract of milk thistle that is traditionally used in herbal medicine as a hepatoprotective product to support healthy liver function and relieve digestive disorders. This highly active plant extract protects the liver from free radical damage, supports glutathione levels and promotes superoxide dismutase activity. It helps maintain liver cell health through a variety of mechanisms, including stimulating protein synthesis and promoting a healthy balance of cytokines. Milk thistle extract also supports liver function by increasing the activity of phase II detoxification enzymes. Healthy liver function is also necessary for the complex process of fat metabolism. Poor digestion of fats can cause digestive problems, including bloating, nausea, stomach pain and fullness. Milk thistle helps relieve dyspepsia, especially after overeating, by stimulating the production and secretion of bile acids.

Dosage

Adults: Take one to three capsules daily in divided doses, or as recommended by a health care professional. Use for at least three weeks to see beneficial effects.
