Description

Each Magnesium capsule contains 100 mg of magnesium in citrate form to support macronutrient metabolism, bone health and muscle function. Magnesium plays an essential role in muscle contraction and relaxation, and may also help maintain muscle function in older, physically active individuals. Older people, especially women, tend to have lower dietary intake and absorption rates of magnesium. In the first clinical trial to evaluate the impact of magnesium on muscle performance in older adults, daily consumption of magnesium supplements for 12 greatly improved physical performance. One hundred and thirty-nine healthy, physically active women aged 65 and older were randomly assigned to receive either a placebo or 300 mg of elemental magnesium from magnesium oxide. Following supplementation, participants in the magnesium group experienced clinically relevant improvements in walking speed, with an average increase of 12 meters per minute. Walking speed is typically used as an independent variable for the diagnosis of age-related muscle loss. Chair test scores were also associated with significant improvement, indicating improved lower extremity strength and balance.
