Description

N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is a derivative of L-cysteine, a dietary amino acid. NAC scavenges free radicals and reduces oxidative stress produced by heavy metals to support antioxidant defense. It is also a precursor of the antioxidant glutathione, and NAC supplementation increases glutathione levels in tissues. Several animal studies suggest that taking NAC also helps moderate the effects of mercury and cadmium accumulation in the kidneys and liver. NAC can achieve these results by promoting healthy levels of glutathione or by protecting tissues from peroxidation caused by heavy metals. NAC also has a strong affinity with lung tissue, which it supports through its antioxidant action.

Dosage
